The best food to fuel up on before you walk

Walking can be great fun. Whether you are walking to shed some weight or you are just doing it for health reasons, it is a great work out and very important. But like any exercise or activity, the kind of foods you eat can have an impact on your productivity.

So before you can even think of walking around your block, take into consideration the foods below that can be of great help in providing you with energy.


Sugar gives us energy. Fruits are a great source of natural sugar. Natural sugar is not harmful to you. See where we’re going with this? Natural sugar is a great, healthy source of energy, so having an apple just a few minutes before the walk can help boost your energy levels.


Carbohydrates are not necessarily required for walking, but energy is. Carbohydrates are a great source of energy for exercise.

Spinach makes it onto this list not because of Popeye the Sailorman, but because it is high in magnesium.

Magnesium is crucial to the body’s function and helps keep blood pressure normal, bones strong, and the heart rhythm steady.

A lack of magnesium can result in muscle spasms, and that is the last thing you want to experience during or after a walk.

Other foods rich in magnesium are almonds, hazelnuts, and cashew nuts.


Mushrooms are full of iron, which helps in transporting oxygen within your bloodstream.

Without a proper flow of oxygen, a person can feel fatigued and lethargic.

So have a cup of mushrooms just minutes before the walk, and see how fresh you feel!
